YOUR ULTIMATE GUIDE TO SUN PROTECTION
You know the drill when it comes to sunscreen: ALL DAY, EVERY DAY! Sun safety is always in season, but especially during the warmer months. We repeat, it’s important to protect your skin from sun damage throughout the year, no matter the weather.
While the sun provides some benefits like vitamin D (it helps absorb calcium, and builds strong bones), it can also have a dangerous effect on you, like premature breakdown of collagen and visible signs of aging: dark spots and wrinkles, risks of sunburn and even skin cancer. That doesn’t exactly sound all that great, does it? Nope, we thought not.
This is why it’s so important that sun protection is top of mind for you when it comes to your skin care daily routine. To help you make the smartest sun choices you can, we’ve rounded up a list of sun protection tips that are easy to follow no matter the time of year. Let’s get started!
We can all agree that we are not masters at putting sunscreen on and there is always room for self-improvement when it comes to sun skin care. A common error in sunscreen application is not using enough. Reapply every 3-4 hours and immediately after heavy perspiration or swimming.
Sunscreen should be worn 365 days a year. The key is finding the best skin care products to fall in love with, so that you'll continue to apply it in your daily skincare routine.KALEOS EYEHUNTERS 'CASTER' SUNGLASSES
Like with sunscreen, wearing sunglasses shouldn’t be relegated just to the hottest days of the summer.
Look for a pair of sunnies that are UV-blocking nd choose a pair of sunglasses that completely cover the eye area. This, plus wearing sunscreen, work best to prevent wrinkles in that area.
Your in need of inspiration? We’ve got you covered! In our curated gallery of sunglasses are so many different types of sunglasses that you’ll definitely be able to find ones that flatter your face shape and your personal fashion sense. Check out the latest new arrivals HERE.
Keep your body hydrated and always cover up with a hat, sunglasses and easy summer clothing. If you have to be in the sun, try to avoid the hours between 10AM and 2PM - that's when the sun's rays are the strongest.
You don’t need to use sunscreen on cloudy, rainy days. Fact is that UV rays penetrate on cloudy days too. So sunscreen is required for all 365 days, and it is non-negotiable.

While you apply sunblock very diligently on the face, there are often times that you miss the neck and the décolletage area. So be careful at the neck, ears, tops of feet, back of the hands and lips as these are the areas that usually get ignored.
Don’t just dab it on, really massage it well so it sinks properly into the skin.
For sunscreen to act properly and provide optimum protection, it should be applied at least 25 to 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun. So you cannot apply suntan lotion and immediately walk out in the sun.
The active ingredients in sunscreens can lose their potency, so check the expiration date. We know that we all have at least one leftover bottle of sunscreen lurking in the medicine cabinet, but it's critical to start fresh each summer.
The suns rays that are harmful to your skin come in two flavors: UVA and UVB. You might think you just need a higher SPF when choosing your sun cream, but that's not true. SPF on its own only measures protection from UVB rays, not UVA rays. Instead, you need to look for "Broad Spectrum" on a sunblock's label to make sure you are getting UVA protection and consider the best SPF rating from there.

Sun protection is very important, so it’s definitely worth it to take sun protection seriously as part of your daily skin care routine. And even though there’s definitely a lot to remember in terms of staying sun safe, once you get into the routine of wearing sunscreen every day, reapplying every two hours, and decking yourself out in a broad-brimmed hat and pair of UV-blocking sunglasses, it should really become like second nature to you. Trust us, your skin will thank you!
